Leonard Disselhorst, cellist
Leonard Disselhorst is a cellist of striking musical presence, known for his warm, highly expressive sound and stylistic versatility. As both soloist and chamber musician, Leonard performs internationally at leading festivals including Lucerne, Verbier, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Rheingau. He is a moving spirit in several acclaimed ensembles, among them the vision string quartet, the CelloFellos, and Berlin’s interdisciplinary Tonhain Kollektiv and collaborating with artists such as Jörg Widmann, Eckart Runge, Marina Viotti, Émile Parisien, and Avi Avital. His performances have been featured widely on radio, and he is a laureate of the prestigious Concours de Genève.
He studied at the Universities in Karlsruhe and Berlin with Prof. Martin Ostertag and Prof. Jens Peter Maintz and received further chamber-music inspiration from the Artemis Quartet and Günter Pichler. With the vision string quartet, Leonard received the OPUS KLASSIK for the ensemble’s debut album on Warner Classics. Their follow-up album SPECTRUM showcases original compositions and genre-bending arrangements spanning folk, pop, rock, funk, minimal and singer-songwriter traditions.
Leonard performs on a distinguished Gaetano Antoniazzi cello (Milan, 1892) and is supported by Thomastik-Infeld.
